Hello from Zurich!
We hope this letter finds you happy and healthy, and that you are finding time to enjoy the summer. We are doing well and Zurich is an incredible place during the summer. The lake becomes a mecca for everyone: swimming over lunch break (not us, only the true enthusiasts), swimming baths (structures built on the lake and river which hold pools that are built right into the water source), and water sports (we haven't tried these yet).
Our friend, Sara, planned our first bike trip of the season; five of us rode from Winterthur to Stein am Rhein. Initially, we thought we would have to create our own route; however, we eventually picked up signs that led us there. The signs were so infrequent though that it made for lots of decisions along the way and we must have taken the loooonnnng way there. Approximately five hours after leaving Winterthur, we reached Stein am Rhein. The hills were easier for us this year, as either they were a little smaller or we are a little lighter!
This brings us to our diet, which has become a normal part of our life. We enjoy trying new recipes and have become better cooks. Steve has been feeling great and overall, we are both feeling healthier and more energized. It is definitely something we plan to continue and we recommend everyone to adopt all or parts of it (cut caffeine, complex carbs, sugars, and preservatives).
At the end of April, we headed for home…we spent time with our families in Minnesota and North Dakota. Since it was planting season for Chris’s dad, Steve got to help dig the fields. In Fargo, we had our last meal at Mr. Steak; we are very happy that Steve’s parents will have more free time on their hands since they decided to sell the restaurant. (See blog for the Mr. Steak article “Fargo says ‘so long’ to Mr. Steak” from the Fargo Forum). Then, we headed for Omaha and attended the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting. Steve rubbed shoulders with Warren as they walked through the exhibits before the meeting. It was an unbelievable event and we want to make it an annual trip. When it was time to pack up to return to Zurich, we had two - 25 lb boxes of almond flour stowed in our luggage. We were little concerned how customs would respond with this white, powdery substance, but we got through unscathed.
Two days after we arrived back in Zurich, Chris’s friend from St. Benedict’s College, Huong, and her fiancĂ©, Matt, stayed with us for awhile. It was fun showing them a little of Switzerland and getting to know Matt. We are looking forward to more visitors…let us know when you are planning your trip.
We spent last weekend in London with Laura and Peter, and got to see the start of the Tour de France and lots of other famous sites. It was a beautiful weekend in London, and just a nice break to have a couple extra days off away from work. Did you see Switzerland’s big wins in the sporting world last week? The Swiss team, Alinghi, successfully defended the America's Cup on July 3, 2007 by beating Emirates Team New Zealand 5-2, and on Sunday, another Swiss native, Roger Federer won his 5th straight Wimbledon title.

We miss you all very much and would love to hear from you!
